Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan, offers a Bachelor of Science in Public Safety Administration that is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association. The program consists of four sections. The first is the core coursework, which includes Policing in Society; U.S. Racial and Cultural Minorities or Civil Rights and Civil Liberties in a Diverse U.S. State and Local Government or Urban Politics; and Communication in Negotiation or Organizational Communication. Next, students take administrative courses that include Public Administration; Public and Nonprofit Personnel Administration; Politics of Public and Nonprofit Budgeting; Theories of Public and Nonprofit Organization; and Managing Public Safety Agencies. The third section of the program focuses on electives related to students’ individual interests, and the final section is an internship or co-op experience.
