The Global Master of Arts in Humanitarian Assistance and Crisis Management (HACM) at SIT Graduate Institute is a full-time residential programme that prepares the next generation of leaders for humanitarian response careers. Students study the origins and history of humanitarian action and principles, examine complex humanitarian emergencies, and explore the roles of international, national and local actors in responding to crises.
The curriculum covers humanitarian policy, diplomacy and advocacy, as well as international humanitarian, human rights and refugee law. A comparative situational analysis of risk is conducted across political upheavals, natural disasters, health pandemics, environmental collapse and armed conflict using real-world case studies. Students develop qualitative and quantitative research methods skills and complete the programme with a capstone project. Courses include Issues in Humanitarian and Refugee Studies, Humanitarian Policy and Advocacy, and Research Methods and Ethics. SIT Graduate Institute is based in Brattleboro, Vermont, and specialises in international education and experiential learning, drawing on decades of global programme delivery.
