The Master in Humanitarian Logistics Management (HLM) is a blended postgraduate programme jointly designed by Università Politecnica delle Marche (UNIVPM) in Ancona, Italy, and practitioners from the humanitarian sector. It aims to address the gap between the growing need for skilled logisticians in humanitarian operations and the scarcity of dedicated educational pathways. The programme is explicitly practitioner-designed and oriented, providing both theoretical knowledge and the practical skills required by humanitarian logisticians.
Delivery is primarily online and synchronous, with classes scheduled mainly outside standard working hours — weekday evenings and full weekends — making it compatible with professional commitments. In-person simulation weeks are held at UNIVPM and at the Oxfam Supply Centre in Bicester, UK. The curriculum covers supply chain management, fleet management, telecommunications, radio communications, and environmental sustainability in humanitarian logistics, as well as a required internship with a humanitarian organisation and a final thesis. Students enter from organisations including UNHCR, WFP, Save the Children and Oxfam. The 2026 cohort started in January 2026.
