Fordham University’s Master of Science in Humanitarian Studies (MSHS) is a 30-credit interdisciplinary programme offered through the Institute of International Humanitarian Affairs (IIHA) at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences in New York City. Built on social justice values and humanitarian principles, the degree is designed for individuals building careers in humanitarian action. It is uniquely focused on the theory and practice of humanitarian relief, covering topics including forced migration, human rights in conflict, urban disasters and education in crises.
Students can complete the MSHS in 1.5 years (three semesters and one summer) or two years, attending evening classes at either the Rose Hill campus in the Bronx or the Lincoln Center campus in Manhattan. Three focus area concentrations are available, including one in Human Rights. MSHS students receive direct advising from the IIHA Executive Director and distinguished faculty. The programme is designed for recent undergraduates and young professionals with fewer than five years of experience. Student veterans receive dedicated support and access to over $100,000 in annual scholarship funding. Graduates pursue careers with NGOs, intergovernmental organisations, government agencies, foundations and private sector organisations engaged in humanitarian affairs.
