The MSc in Health in Humanitarian Crises at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is a flexible distance learning programme designed to give students the practical humanitarian skills and operational expertise needed to improve health in fragile and crisis-affected communities. Developed in collaboration with academic staff and field experts from Médecins Sans Frontières, Save the Children and the WHO, the programme provides an in-depth understanding of health and humanitarian issues including the humanitarian project cycle, ethical considerations, policy issues and global response architecture.
Students complete eight modules for the full MSc — four compulsory core modules including Principles of Biostatistics and Epidemiology and Monitoring and Evaluation for Humanitarian Health Projects, plus elective options — and a final project report. The programme can be completed in as little as two years or spread over up to five years. A PGCert and PGDip are also available. LSHTM is ranked #3 in the world for public health (Shanghai Ranking 2025). Full tuition fee scholarships are available for first-generation university students from underrepresented groups who hold an offer of admission. Admissions are open with the next academic year starting October 2026.
